Pre-Engineered i-Systems: iQM

iQM
Clean burning natural gas is the most versatile fuel used in industry today. Its cost and reliability of supply are essential to the good health of businesses everywhere.

Type iQM propane-air systems offer an integrated gas energy solution for the mid-sized to large interruptible natural gas consumer. They provide the ultimate in supply security while allowing purchase of natural gas on the most economical level.
These systems provide on-site storage of propane fuel and produce propane-air, a mixture that is interchangeable with natural gas.

iQM systems offer safe, reliable and easy to use technology for supplementing natural gas deliveries.

integrated
All type iQM systems are pre-engineered by Standby Systems, the leading designer in natural gas replacement systems for over 30 years.

Because they are pre-engineered, you.re assured components will work together the way they should, .and they're easy to install, operate and maintain.

iQM propane-air systems can be equipped with a variety of storage configurations, replacement capacities and safety features. Optional packages allow users to customize their system to fit individual needs.
interruptible gas service
Interruptible gas service is a bit of a misnomer since back-up propane-air systems provide an un-interrupted gaseous fuel supply. So while reaping the economic benefits of an interruptible natural gas supply contract, you also get the security of supply that only propane-air can offer. On-site fuel storage and on-demand switching between fuels means you'll never be without gas energy.
interchangeable fuels
Propane-air is interchangeable with natural gas. That means either gas may be supplied to a group of appliances and result in similar appliance efficiency, flame characteristics and products of combustion.
iQM system operation
iQM systems have a simple operating scheme
  • Liquid propane is delivered into storage tanks through a truck fuel delivery station.
  • Propane is withdrawn from the storage tanks and, if required, the pressure is raised via motor-driven pump.
  • Liquid is then heated in a gas fired waterbath vaporizer and converted to a super-heated vapor.
  • Vaporized propane is diluted with air in the venturi style blender to produce a "propane-air" mixture.
  • Propane-air is then distributed via the existing natural gas piping for use without changes to individual burners.

iQM system
This iQM propane-air standby system includes a single 30,000 gallon aboveground storage tank. Propane is delivered in 9,000 gallon truck loads via a truck unloading station. An electric driven pump provides liquid to a vaporizer/mixer assembly that boils the liquid gas and blends it with air. Piping from the propane-air mixer connects directly to the natural gas system. This system, shown here, can replace up to 936,000 cubic feet of natural gas per day (39 million btu per hour) at a send out pressure of 10 psig. Standard features include integrated PLC based control with remote connectivity, and a comprehensive emergency shutdown (ESD) system. iQM

Fuel Delivery

iQM truck delivery stations offer a perfect blend of safety and efficiency. Standard on all iQM systems, truck delivery stations are designed for acceptance of both full transport trucks and smaller bobtail vehicles.
Vaporizer / Blender

At the heart of iQM systems is Algas-SDI's type QM combination gas fired waterbath vaporizer and propane-air blender. The QM vaporizer uses a heat exchanger immersed in a heated water/glycol mixture to boil the incoming liquid propane to a gas and a venturi style blender that utilizes this gas to draw in air and produce a propane-air mixture. It's a simple and very reliable system.

iQM systems are available to meet a wide range of capacities and pressures. Air silencers are standard to ensure quiet operation. While designed for outdoor installation, an optional walk-in enclosure is available for the burner end of he QM if desired.

Controls

The iQM UL approved control panel is the electrical hub of the system. This panel incorporates all power distribution devices interlocked with the systems comprehensive Emergency Shut-Down controls. System power is brought to this panel and distributed to individual system components. Drawings detail each step of installation.

Enhanced Control Option i1 includes Algas-SDI's remote viewer software. Installed on a customer's personal computer and connected to the QM via a serial communications cable, this Windows. based software allows remote operating control and status monitoring of the QM.

Propane Storage

Both aboveground and underground storage options are available in a variety of sizes to meet your needs. All tanks are constructed to the exacting requirements of ASME.

Refer to the selection table for available tank sizes and corresponding days of storage.

Safety

A comprehensive Emergency Shut-Down (ESD) system provides every iQM user with a level of safety unprecedented in the industry.

ESD systems include actuated valves at key points to quickly seal and isolate the system upon activation.

Multiple remote shutdown stations allow for operator interaction. In addition to product isolation, all system equipment stops and your facility returns to operation on natural gas. An alarm indicates the ESD system has tripped requiring manual reset prior to continued operation.

System option i2 offers gas detection equipment to be supplied and integrated for automatic activation of the ESD system. These high quality, infrared combustible gas detectors require no calibration thus reducing maintenance costs.

Technical Support

At any stage of installation, iQM purchasers have access to Standby's technical support by simply calling our installation support line.

System startup and training

With purchase of optional service package i4, a factory-trained technician will travel to your site, meet with contractors and review installation details. When installation is complete, the technician will return to start and test your system and provide training to system operators.

Engineering Support

In some cases additional engineering is required to integrate the iQM into your facilities. Standby offers complete engineering support services to help you with specific needs and can also oversee installation with a team of construction management professionals.
